How to: Install CR Laurence Windows on a Sprinter Van

Install CR Laurence Windows in a Sprinter Van: 08' Dodge Sprinter - 144 Low Roof

We finally got the Sprinter back and first things first- We need to get those windows in.

Here are the windows we ordered.

Passenger Side Sliding Door:

Driver Side Forward:

Passenger Side Rear Window
--We were really happy we ordered this through Amazon because the first time it was shipped it was smashed in shipping so they didn't finish delivering it, and shipped us out a new one the very next day! Amazon really is great for things like that!

STEP 1: CUT OUT METAL (follow OEM lines)
If you haven't see our page on how we cut the metal out of the van click here first: HOW TO CUT THE METAL FOR A SPRINTER WINDOW.

After getting our windows in and attempting to install them we learned we were a little too careful when cutting out the metal.  The window wasn't sitting flush, or we had to really push hard to get it in.  It was catching in certain spots where the metal wasn't cut close enough to the OEM Stamping.  So when they say cut to the OEM Stamping, they mean follow that line exactly.

NOTE: We couldn't find anywhere on line where it says how the gasket or the inside frame was suppose to fit.  We thought if we pushed the window really hard from the outside it would work, but the inside metal frame wasn't sitting close to the window.  There was a good 1/2 inch.  This is NOT right.  It really needs to sit flush with ease, without any pushing or pulling on the window.  Once you get it to go in smooth.  You did it!

FIRST: GET HELP: This is a 2 person job.  You need someone to hold the window in while you are inside the van.

STEP 2: Put the window in

Have someone hold the window in while you go inside and check how it sits.

If it goes in perfectly without catching and sitting flush move on to STEP 6. (WAY TO GO!)
If it doesn't sit perfectly, and you have to push or pull to get the window in, then you need to go to STEP 3.

STEP 3: Mark imperfections

We would put the window in and mark where it wasn't going in all the way with a sharpie (on the inside of the van.  Don't worry the gasket is big so you can't see it once installed. )

STEP 4: Grind down where you marked.

Be very careful, and cut little by little.  If you over cut, you're in trouble.  We did this around 10 times for each window just to be careful we didn't cut too much.

STEP 5: File down sharp metal

After you grind you will see it makes a lot of burrs that mushroom over.  We filed them down a little each time just so they wouldn't puncture the gasket on the window.

Continue steps 1- 4 until you get the window to go in very smoothly.

Step 6: Tape & Paint where you cut/ grind/ filed (Rust prevention)
We just used some White Rustoleum and put it right on the cuts we made.  Just in case some water got in there for some odd reason.  If you've seen our before pictures, you know we need to prevent as much rust from coming back as we can.  We used painters tape to tape off the window frame so no paint dripped too far where the window gasket wouldn't cover.  Once again the color doesn't matter because it will be covered by the gasket.  We were hoping that since we cut the metal out before we got a full body paint job we were skipping this step, but fitting those windows took a lot more custom cutting than we thought!

STEP 7: Screw in the inside frame

Have someone push on the outside of the window while you screw in the screws to give you a tight seal.  This really helps on the sliding door since it tends to move while you drill.

You will notice there are no holes in the window itself just in the metal framing.  The screws will go in with ease once you start screwing them in.

Scott learned on the first one to take your time here.  The metal bends very easily so you'll need to watch your drill, and keep going around and screwing them in all slowly until they're all tight and secure, and thats it!
